Abstract Submission Guidelines
Call for Conference Presentation Oral and Poster Exhibit Abstracts is closed for APWCA2008.

Notifications of acceptance has been sent to all corresponding abstract authors via email. Please contact Mary-Ellen Dobson, RN, CWOCN, DAPWCA at mdobson@aol.com if you have submitted an abstract application and have not received confirmation.

The American Professional Wound Care Association is a multidisciplinary, scientific conference for wound care professionals which include MDs, DOs, DPMs, PAs, NPs, RNs and PTs and other wound care professionals currently working in private practice, acute settings, long term care or home health care. The American Professional Wound Care Association has closed abstract applications for poster exhibit and oral presentations. The conference will be held in Fort Worth, TX in Spectacular Sundance Square, from March 6-9,  2008.

Poster Content

Poster submissions should contain subject matter that will be of interest to the conference attendees who treat various types of wounds. Topics can include, but are not limited to, case studies, clinical research, treatment modalities, educational tools, and new technology.

General Guidelines

  1. Deadline for all Oral and Poster abstract application submissions is January 25, 2008
  2. Questions should be submitted as clearly delineated in paragraph 16 below. The contacts for any questions is the abstract sessions general chairperson Mary Ellen Dobson. There is no co-chair for poster abstracts but for oral abstracts the co-chairperson, is Dr. James Stavosky.  All questions and email correspondence for oral or poster abstracts should also be copied to Shelley Johnson, Abstract APWCA Staff Coordinator  and Dr. Steven Kravitz, Scientific Committee Chairman.    If you have a problem contacting either of the chairs you may contact APWCA headquarters Wounds@apwca.org   or by phone 215-364-4100
  3. All abstract applications must be submitted as an e-mail attachment on the forms available by clicking on the bottom of the web page. Electronic applications only will be accepted for review.  We regret that we will not be able to process and review fax and other forms of applications.
  4. The conference audience will include approximately 800 multidisciplinary registrants representing many disciplines in medicine.
  5. Oral and Poster presenters must register for the conference and make their own travel and hotel arrangements.
  6. All posters presentations must be left on the poster boards and intact for the entire poster exhibit from opening of the exhibit, 7:30 am Friday, March 7, 2008 until breakdown at 2:00 pm, Saturday March 8, 2008. Presenters should also be available to answer questions during designated poster sessions. While we encourage presenters to attend their exhibit during all poster sessions we are specifically requesting that a representative presenter attend their exhibit during the latter portion of lunch sessions on both days of the exhibit, Friday March 7 and Saturday March 8. (1-2 pm each day) (See paragraph 9 below for details)
  7. Oral abstract presenters are expected to attend the entire oral abstract session. The time and date of this session will be provided to the primary author with the acceptance letter of the oral abstract. Oral abstract presentations will be a 10 minute lecture followed by a 5 minute question and answer session. All oral presenters must be in the lecture room and available to deliver their presentation at its scheduled time will forfeit their lecture.  All must be in the scheduled room at least 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the oral abstract session to load their presentation on the computer and so we avoid delay that would disturb the "flow" of the program. We also request that presenters remain during the entire session since individuals frequently like to ask questions of presenters, but may be  inhibited in front of an audience.
  8. Applicants can submit for both poster exhibit and oral abstract presentations. This requires submitting two applications, each on an APWCA abstract application form due to the fact that there are two independent committees that review each type or abstract submission.
  9. A first and second place prize will be awarded for oral abstracts and also poster exhibit abstracts. Authors delivering abstracts as a poster exhibit and also as an oral abstract (as described in paragraph 5 above) will be viable for first or second prize in one abstract format only. That is a presenter who wins first or second place in one category of abstract will not be viable to also win in the other remaining category.
  10. The Association will provide each poster presenter with a poster board that is 8 feet in width and 4 feet in height. Presenters must bring their own pushpins, as they will not be provided for you. Pushpins are the only acceptable form of application of your poster to the assigned board.
  11. Posters must be setup for presentation by 7:30 AM, Friday March 7, 2008. Setup time for posters will be available Thursday, March 6. All presenters are required to have posters available for review from 7:30 AM Friday March 7 until 2:00 PM Saturday March 8, 2008. Early removal of the poster material is prohibited by the association without prior authorization associated with special circumstances. Removal of the poster from the poster board Saturday March 8 at 2:00 pm is the responsibility of the presenter. Failure to do this may result in damage or loss of the poster exhibit.
  12. Teardown of the posters will be March 8, 2008 at 2:00 PM. The Association will not be responsible for any lost or damaged items and will not take responsibility for posting, or removing your materials.
  13. "Takeaway abstracts” of your poster are welcome so that clinicians viewing your poster can take a copy of it back to their home centers for sharing with other clinicians. Please take note that the distribution of product samples related to your presentation is prohibited.
  14. There will be a dedicated poster session to be scheduled during the conference so that attendees can meet and talk with the authors of their posters.

          15. Oral and Poster Proposal Format Requirements

Oral and poster presentations have to be submitted individually. Be sure to check of properly the type of abstract presentation you are submitting at the beginning of the abstract application. You can submit for an oral, or poster exhibit. If you are submitting the abstract to present in both formats you must submit an application for each format. The third option is to submit the abstract ONLY for placement on our abstracts web page and not for conference presentation. All of this is clearly delineated in the beginning of the abstracts application.
